Stained Glass Kits

Buying Stained Glass Kits - Basic Information

There are many different kinds of stained glass kits on the market. There are starter kits containing any supply you'll need, from tools to patterns, to complete your projects, pre cut glass kits that you simply assemble, and more complicated kits that may take a little bit of skill to work with. Project kits are also available. These include the patterns and the supplies you'll need, but they may not have the tools in them, since the assumption is that you have your own. Some specialty kits may include tools and supplies that you don't see very often.

If you're a brand new glass crafter, started stained glass kids are probably the best choice. Working with stained glass has been done for hundreds of years, and there are plenty of guidelines you'll want to follow. Make sure that you follow the rules to get the best results. After so much practice by so many people, they're there for a reason. Once you learn the basics, you'll be able to do more complex things. Starter kits are out there that will work for just about anyone, and they allow you to get some basic tools and start working right away.

One downside to using a starter stained glass kit is that it may not contain the best tools available. Good cutters, for instance, have an oil reservoir that lubricates the glass and cutter as you work. This reduces wear and makes the process of scoring your glass easier. The average kit will contain a cutter of some kind, but it may be a simpler one. Expect to see breaking and running pliers, a grinder, safety glasses, copper tape, solder and an iron, patterns, and other tools and materials that will make your project easier. Look for kits that include a video to show you in real time how to handle glass safely and effectively, and how to use your tools correctly.

Of course, if you already have your own supplies, a project kit might be a better idea. This will allow you to create a specific stained glass project, but it assumes you have all the tools you need already. Most of them are sold to hobbyists who already have a little experience, and some will allow you to choose the colors you want to include in your project. Others come with the colors pre chosen for the window, lampshade or other item you'll be making

If you want a precut glass kit or other specialty type of stained glass kit, you may not be able to find it at your local store. Online retailers will carry those kits that are less in demand, or which carry higher quality or more specialized tools. These are a great choice once you've been working with glass for a while and know what it is that you prefer. Take the time to look at stained glass kits if you're interested in this beautiful art. They can really simplify things.
